Trim Levels (Exterior)
You can get a 2019 Kia Rio as either a sedan or a hatchback, and in both cases, your trim options are LX, S, and EX. The only real difference between the two body styles is a slightly higher price for the hatchback along with plenty of extra room, making it a good choice for those carrying a lot of gear. In the Rio LX, you'll receive a 5-inch touch screen, a six-way adjustable driver's seat, and automatic headlights. With the S, you also get cruise control, two more USB charging ports, and a Bluetooth hands-free phone system. Finally, if you want the EX, you'll get a 7-inch touch screen with the UVO infotainment system, voice commands, fog lights, and a 3.5-inch Supervision Meter Cluster.
Engine (Power)
Every 2019 Rio comes with the same engine. That engine is 1.6 liters and has four cylinders, and it delivers 130 horsepower with 119 pound-feet of torque. With the LX trim, you can expect a six-speed manual transmission, but you can get a six-speed automatic instead. The automatic is also standard on the other trims. Either way, you can expect 27 or 28 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway.
Performance
Just because the 2019 Kia Rio has a budget price doesn't mean it offers budget performance. The Rio's 130 horsepower is plenty for helping the light vehicle get around, so you'll have no trouble accelerating, whether you're between stoplights downtown or you're passing slower vehicles on the highway. The suspension isn't as comfortable as it might be on a more expensive vehicle, but it's tough and it gives you a good feel for the road without having to hit any drive mode switches.
Interior
You can expect to fit 13.7 cubic feet into the trunk of a 2019 Rio sedan and fit up to 17.4 cubic feet in the back of the hatchback. The hatchback can also give you up to 32.8 cubic feet to work with if you drop the rear seats. Despite being a subcompact car, the Rio has plenty of room for up to five passengers, and your upholstery options include a tricot cloth and partial leather seats. Your other interior options include six speakers, UVO with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a big storage space in the center console between the two seats.
Safety Features
Safety basics on the 2019 Kia Rio include electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, a hill-start assist, six air bags, and LATCH anchors for child safety seats. On the EX trim, you can also count on getting the Forward Collision Warning System with Autonomous Emergency Braking.
