Best Haunted Houses in Wichita

Halloween
With Halloween just around the corner, there's no better time to surround yourself with spooky haunts and ghoulish creatures to get you in the holiday spirit. If you're up for a frightening adventure this Halloween, here are some of the most terrifying haunted attractions worth checking out when the sun goes down.

Wicked Island Haunted Forest and Escape Room

Head to O.J. Watson Park for our first spooky location, also known as the Wicked Island Haunted Forest and Escape Room. Here you can take a 30-minute tour of the Haunted Forest surrounded by wooded trails and rough paths. Next visit the Escape Room where you'll be split into a group of up to six people and have 30 minutes to solve a variety of puzzles in order to escape the horror-themed room before time runs out. Admission to the Haunted Forest is $15 for children ages 12 and under, $20 for adults, and $35 for a Fast Pass to cut back on time spent in line for each attraction. Escape Room admission is $40 for the first two in a group and $10 for each additional member. If you're interested, the grounds are open every Friday and Saturday in October from 8 p.m. to midnight and on Halloween night from 8 to 10 p.m.

Forest of Terror

Located along 50 St. N. and 5059 N. Ridge Road, the Forest of Terror is a premier Wichita haunt guaranteed to scare you. Otherwise, it wouldn't hold the title as the only authentically haunted sites in Kansas. Venture past dark forest trails surrounded by pines and wait in anticipation for the screams of others destined to sound off all night long. Keep in mind the Forest of Terror isn't recommended for those with a heart condition, expectant mothers, or children under 7 years of age. If you're brave and healthy enough to take on this haunted attraction, open dates run throughout the month from Oct. 6 to Oct. 31 with weekday hours stretching from sunset to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday hours extending until midnight. Admission is $19 for adults, though you can visit the official website for a $5 off discount on weekdays and $2 off on Fridays, Saturdays, and Halloween night.

The Haunted Cannery

Head to Walter's Pumpkin Patch this Halloween season and explore the creepy attractions at the Haunted Cannery. This “fun house” is quite the opposite actually with its frightening music, revved-up chainsaws, spooky spiders, terrifying clowns, undead zombies, and vampire and werewolf sightings. Here you'll get to take a hay wagon ride past dark cornfields, hitch a casket ride to the RIP Mortuary, and tour an abandoned four-story grain elevator. For the kids, Walter's Pumpkin Patch will be hosting its own activities including a flashlight trek through a giant corn maze, fall-themed games, and a Pumpkinfest. Those interested in attending can do so on Fridays and Saturdays between Oct. 5 and Oct. 27. Looking for a scary outdoor attraction to satisfy your haunting addiction. These top suggestions in the Wichita area are just what you need this Halloween season. Image via Flickr by MuseumofAviation/ Under use by CC BY-ND 2.0
